Imagine spinning unique yarns from exotic fleeces and luscious rovings…just as your ancestors did! If you're interested in fiber arts, there's nothing like making your own products. This hands-on intro class will teach you the basics of spinning on a wheel using a variety of prepared wool materials. We will also discuss carding, finishing, and plying. Students will have the chance to try several models of spinning wheels and will go home with a skein or two of handspun yearn! Class will take a 1-hour lunch break on your own. NOTE: Please plan to spin in your stocking feet. $20 supply fee paid to instructor. 

In this course, your instructor will guide you through the steps of making paper. You will use simple processes that you can do at home using an ordinary blender and other household items. This is a fun and eco-friendly process good for all experience levels and backgrounds. Enrollment is limited; book early! Note: Additional $35 supply fee paid to instructor at class for supplies/materials.

Woodcarving and whittling is an ancient form of expression…and some classify it as a 'lost art'. Even with very little experience, you can make creative and interesting projects. This class will focus on beginning carving. You will learn about tools, types of wood, and various techniques. Wood and other supplies for small class projects will be provided, but students will need to bring their own basic woodcarving knife (1 to 1 ½ inch blade), that can be found at Who’s Hobby in Rapid City, other local hobby stores, or various online woodcarving retailers. Good brands to look for are FlexCut, Warren Cutlery, Mastercarver, BeaverCraft, etc. Ages 18 yrs old and older are welcome. There is a strict limit on class size. NOTE: Additional $30 supply fee paid to instructor.

Come join us to create your own 13-inch Native American hand drum with a drumstick. We’ll use cedar wood (a sacred herb), deer leather, and black walnut to make it unique and beautiful. Then we’ll stain and wrap the drumstick. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn this true native art.
