Vertical Milling Machine Basics

This course will equip students with the fundamental knowledge and skills required to use the vertical milling machine for precision machining operations in a hobby shop, home shop, or farm shop environment. The course covers machine safety, setup, maintenance, and operation of the milling machine. This is a “hands-on” course that engages the students in projects designed to develop their skills in using the mill. Training covers precision measurement, layout, feature location, work holding, tool holding, drilling, slotting, pocketing, boring, block squaring, and surfacing operations.

Fee includes the online book, online follow-up lessons, a recording of the class and an optional periodic question and answer session. Class is held online using zoom with you sitting at your own piano or keyboard and is partly hands-on instruction and partly lecture demonstration. NOTE: Students will need a device that has internet to get their email link to ‘join’ the class, microphone and video capabilities as do most tablets, laptops and computers. Bring it to the Fix-It Lab, a relaxed, hands-on workshop designed to help you troubleshoot your crochet projects, understand what went wrong, and get back on track with confidence. You’ll receive individualized guidance for issues like dropped stitches, uneven edges, pattern confusion, or unfinished projects—this is not a “start a new project” class, but a chance to make progress on what you already have. We’ll help you identify and fix common mistakes, count stitches and rows accurately, clarify patterns, and learn how to “read” your crochet work so you can create a plan to finish. Basic crochet skills (slip knot, foundation chain, single and double crochet) are recommended, and participants should bring their current project(s), yarn, hook, scissors, and any patterns they are using.
